This Is Indy.
Stepping Into a New Season
Changing seasons, growing families, and Fall in Indianapolis.
A Quick Note from Me
I am just a few weeks away from beginning the next chapter of my life… fatherhood.
I’m feeling all the emotions excitement, fear, hope, joy, and everything in between. I’m also super pumped to watch Krystal step into life as a mom. We’re both really looking forward to raising our girl in the love of Christ and hopefully creating a beautiful childhood full of wonderful memories.
All prayers, words of encouragement, and good vibes sent our way are welcomed!
As fall gets into full swing, it’s also been fun enjoying some of our yearly traditions. One of those is exploring Tuttle Orchards, where we pick apples, grab some treats from the snack shop, and of course hit one of our favorite Korean spots, Ma Ma’s Korean Restaurant, on the way home.
I’m truly blessed to live this life through all its ups and downs, changing seasons, and growth. This next season comes with a lot more responsibility, but also a whole lot more purpose and I’m really looking forward to it.
Local Events
Things to Do This Month
![]() IRVINGTON HALLOWEEN FESTIVAL | OCT. 24–31If there’s one neighborhood in Indy that takes Halloween seriously, it’s Irvington. This year marks the 80th Historic Irvington Halloween Festival, with an entire week of spooky events including the Halloween Ball, horror shorts, a spooky organ concert, Zombie Bike Ride, Vampire Run, and more. It all leads up to the massive Street Fair on Halloween day, when thousands of people take over Washington Street for local vendors, food, costumes, live entertainment, and plenty of Halloween weirdness. Irvington is already one of Indy’s most unique historic neighborhoods, but there really isn’t anything else like it during October. | ![]() HEARTLAND FILM FESTIVAL | OCT. 8–18For 35 years, the Heartland Film Festival has brought filmmakers and movie lovers from around the world right here to Indianapolis. This year, you can catch 100 films across some of my favorite spots around the city, including Kan-Kan Cinema, Living Room Theaters, Newfields, Indy Art Center, and more. Expect everything from local Hoosier films and world premieres to filmmaker Q&As, sneak peeks, and red carpet events. If you love movies, this is one of those Indy events that’s definitely worth checking out! |
![]() HARVEST NIGHTS AT NEWFIELDS | SEPT. 25–NOV. 1If you’re looking for peak fall vibes without going full haunted house, Harvest Nights at Newfields is one of my favorite October experiences in Indy. The Garden transforms after dark with tens of thousands of pumpkins and jack-o’-lanterns, fog-filled trails, the Ghost Train, and plenty of spooky-but-not-too-spooky surprises. This year also brings new additions to Mischief Manor inside Lilly House, plus seasonal food and drinks along the way. It’s basically a fall night walk through Newfields with a little Halloween magic mixed in. Get Tickets → | ![]() COTTAGE HOME BLOCK PARTYThis might be one of my favorite under-the-radar fall events in Indy. Every October, the tiny historic neighborhood of Cottage Home shuts down part of Dorman Street for a neighborhood-wide block party filled with live local music, food, drinks, local vendors, and plenty of Halloween spirit. Cottage Home already feels like its own little pocket of Indianapolis, and this is one of those events that makes you feel like you stumbled into a neighborhood party you didn’t know existed. |
What I’m Loving Right Now
Rediscovering Indy
Lately, I’ve been spending a lot more time filming and photographing around Indianapolis and it’s made me gain more appreciation for my city all over again.
It’s easy to get complacent with the place you call home. You drive the same streets, go to the same places, and eventually stop noticing some of the things that make your city special. So lately I’ve been trying to explore Indy like I’m visiting for the first time.
I’ve also found myself coming back to an old love of mine: photography and cinematography. In high school, I was a huge camera nerd and actually considered going down the media/graphic design route before life took me in a different direction. Now, over a decade later, I’m finding my way back to one of my favorite art forms.
I’ve especially loved carrying around my little Fujifilm Instax camera. There’s something fun about using such a simple tool, no endless editing or trying to get the “perfect” shot. Just capturing a candid moment and letting that one frame tell the story.
It’s been a good reminder that sometimes you don’t need to travel somewhere new to discover something new. Sometimes you just need to look at where you already are a little differently.

Explore Indiana: Turkey Run State Park
If you’re looking for an excuse to get out of Indy this month, Turkey Run State Park needs to be on your list.
October is one of my favorite times to visit because the fall colors are absolutely immaculate. The trails take you through deep ravines, sandstone cliffs, old-growth forest, and some of the most unique hiking you’ll find anywhere in Indiana.
It’s only about an hour and a half from Indy, making it an easy day trip. Pack some snacks, throw on a sweatshirt, and go explore a little more of our state while the leaves are showing off. You can even get a campsite and stay the night!
Market Minute
40 YEARS OLD.
That’s now the median age of a first-time homebuyer in America.
Honestly, I think that’s sad. Homeownership is becoming harder and harder to attain in this country, and for a lot of people, buying their first home keeps getting pushed further down the road.
One thing I’m incredibly grateful for, though, is that we live in Indiana.
Homeownership here can still be attainable at a younger age, but for most people, it isn’t going to happen by accident. It takes being a little more proactive and intentional about how you set up your lifestyle, spending, savings, and expectations for that first home.
It might mean buying something smaller. Living in a different neighborhood. House hacking. Or simply making homeownership a priority a few years before you actually plan to buy.
And sure, building some wealth along the way isn’t so bad either. But I think the bigger payoff is getting to build a home, put down roots in a community, and create a place your family gets to call theirs.
You don’t need to have everything figured out. You just need to start planning for it.
Next Step
Planning to Buy a Home, but Don’t Know Where to Start?
If you’re thinking about buying a home, but aren’t sure what the first move should be, don’t guess. The Home Buyer Readiness Quiz at the bottom of this email will help you understand where you stand.
Whether you’re ready now or just starting to think ahead, you’ll walk away with a clearer game plan and fewer unknowns.
